Help Desk: Week Five

Updated: Oct 30, 2019

Labo/Switch, Stem Week Activities, Google Applied Digital Skills, Adobe Illustrator and Personal MacbookPro WIFI Issues

Labo/Switch-

The Nintendo Switch is a handheld and dockable video game console which is compatible with the Labo virtual reality system. The Lobo system consists of a Camera, Blaster, Backpack and Bird with the main material for the accessories being cardboard, rubber bands, and plastic caps and screws.

Matt and I played with the blaster which was very fun. We were put into a map filled with pink enemies that needed to be destroyed as you run through the map and complete different waves. Once we finish the round we were boxed up and brought to a new location. Eventually fighting a boss.

Later in the week, we used the Nintendo/Labo vehicle kit where you make essentially a plane, car, and submarine control system out of cardboard which then allows you to interact and then play the controls on the screen. Once the car control system was assembled we used the steering wheel to drive a car through the desert, water and getting fuel at the gas station. For the "plane" controls it was a joystick/throttle or center stick to fly under the trees, over the mountains, bridges, and water.... before fueling again.

Stem Week-

I wrote this Loudspeaker Announcement below which will hopefully be used and accepted by Mr.Wong

All this week we will be hosting STEM activities in the Help Desk all week. Come visit during a long block if you are available in the upper library and interact with our virtual reality, 3D printing, and virtual design.

The Tech Department is running a stem week which is district-wide where the focus is on technology and how we use it in learning and technical growth.

Mr.Wong thought we should try our Sweet home 3d which is the virtual house/building design platform, Tinker Cad which is the make your own 3D designs to print yourself (figure/key chain), and VR systems such as the Playstation and Libo.

Hopefully, we will be able to market this as a week-long event that everyone will have the opportunity to come experience while allowing us Help Desk students to use our customer service, technology and hands-on abilities in a real-life environment.

We will also be using the Makey Makey with the preschool-aged kids for stem week. It consists of wires with alligator clips that can interact with many real-world items and it acts as a control. There needs to be a ground conductor or it will not work.

Google Applied Digital Skills

Mr.Wong wanted to try a new digital citizenship set up for the upcoming years. We tried Google's self-made Applied Digital Skills program which is packed with videos and articles. The topics covered are Technology, Ethics, and Security, Technology's Role in Current Events, How to organize college information in Google Sheets, Identify Cyberbullying, and to Avoid Online Scams.

Adobe Illustrator

Mr.Wongs Quick Imput "Not to hard to use. Have to pay for it. Works with a subscription system. Similair to Photoshop"

I asked Mr.Wong if he had any software or website that he recommends for logo making. In student council, DECA, captainship and overall fundraising I will need to learn how to use graphic design.

Personal MacbookPro WIFI Issues

For the past three or four days, my wifi has been bouncing off of many different WIFI's while in school and forced me to reenter my password multiple times before it would settle and function. After closing my laptop I would need to restart the six to eight-minute process of getting back online.

Mr.Wong assisted me greatly in fixing this problem, we accessed the keychain to delete any prior saved passwords and into my system preferences to forget any other networks as a whole. Since then, my WIFI has been flawless and hopefully will continue working cleanly.
